Biocomputers - A New Innovation That Will Turn the IT World Upside Down!
Biocomputer - A "Miracle" Among "Miracles" 🤔❓
Biocomputer: A Revolution in Computing Powered by Human Cells
Imagine a computer that doesn't use silicon chips but instead contains brain cells – yes, human brain cells! It sounds like science fiction, doesn't it? But technology is advancing by leaps and bounds, and this is now a reality thanks to the Australian startup Cortical Labs, which has introduced the world's first biocomputer.
What is a biocomputer?
A biocomputer, which at first glance looks like an ordinary server or computer, actually uses neurons, or brain cells, to process information. These cells can do something amazing – they can learn, organize, and adapt without the need for traditional programming. Simply put, the brain inside the computer learns to work on its own.
What does this mean for the average person?
Better performance and lower energy consumption: Biocomputers are up to six times more energy-efficient than current computers. While a large graphics chip powering AI requires up to 6,000 watts, a biocomputer only needs 850 to 1,000 watts.
Faster and smarter computing: Traditional computers work with zeros and ones. Biocomputers, however, can do much more – they process values in between and solve problems faster and more efficiently.
Where can they be applied?
Biocomputers open up new possibilities in science, research, and medicine. For example:
Drug testing without the need for animals: Brain cells can be modified to simulate human diseases, such as epilepsy. This allows people to test drugs for specific problems and develop them more accurately.
Disease research: Thanks to their cellular origin, it is possible to study hereditary diseases directly on a biological model.
Is it safe and ethical?
Cortical Labs is working to ensure that their technology is not misused. They aim to ensure that their neurons never reach a level of consciousness and adhere to ethical principles created by global experts.
A Revolution That Started by Playing Pong
Biocomputers are not yet supercomputers conquering space. But as early as 2022, the startup experimented with a chip where a combination of human and mouse cells was able to play the computer game Pong. Although alcohol significantly reduced their performance, this shows the enormous potential of this technology.
What's next?
Biocomputers are not yet for everyone. The price of one unit is 805,000 Czech crowns. However, the startup plans to create entire data centers that will be accessible via the cloud – so that anyone can experiment with this technology.
Summary for the average person
Biocomputers are the first steps toward a new era of computing. Who knows where this revolution will take us. One thing is certain – this is a technology that can change the world, and not just the digital one. And perhaps one day, they will be part of your everyday life.
